Over the weekend, the Marshomech was unleashed upon the gamers attending this year’s Penny Arcade Expo. While walking around the Meydenbauer Center, the Marshomech posed for pictures, got into a few interviews, got into some random dance competitions with fans, waged combat with Zelda and Link (awesome costumes, by the way!) got thwacked at the Smash Bros. and Tetris tournaments :( , terrorized little children (I’m so sorry!), and received numerous hugs from mostly women (when a marshmallow in a gigantic robot suit with vengenace on its mind opens its arms, it usually means you’re gonna be thwacked soon, but the hugs were nice nevertheless) :)

Can’t you feel the love?

Here are some random thoughts about the Marshomech’s time at PAX:

Three things that were totally unexpected:
1.) The suit managed to hold together for three straight days. Thank you string & duct tape!
2.) Everyone thought the suit was awesome! (Thanks everyone!)
3.) The Marshomech, as terrorizing as it is, turned out to be a monster of huggable affection at PAX.

Ready to engage in battle

Marshomech vs. the dude who beat him in Smash Bros.

Three things I wished I could have done:
1.) Actually win a round in the gaming tournaments I entered… (or be able to see the screen properly when playing in a giant robot suit…) :(
2.) Get to play Guitar Hero II in the Marshomech suit. That would’ve totally ROCKED (no pun intended…)
3.) Play with this giant ball everyone’s been talking about at PAX…
4.) (I just had to squeeze this one in) Get more swag from all the booths. My swag collection was less than last year’s. Booooooooo…

Marshomech taking out his frustrations on an enforcer.

Despite the things I couldn’t do, I really enjoyed PAX. Actually, let me correct that. My mind enjoyed PAX, my body did not. :(

Three things when thinking of a mascot:
1.) Mascot suits are boiling HOT.
2.) Donate to the mascot retirement fund. They’ll need the money to cover their medical bills.
3.) Give any mascot you see a nice, big hug. It eases the bodily pain they’re usually in!

Marshomech fueling up.

Three things I’m requesting next year for the Marshomech suit:
1.) Be able to move in the thing without worrying about parts falling off.
2.) Be able bend my arms upwards so I can actually feed myself food.
3.) NOT make the arms weigh like 10lbs each…. :(

Giant robots need food too!

Anyways, PAX this year was a super blast. More so than last year’s, and probably even more so than the year before. Sure there were a few glitches (long lineups & crowded spaces are always a boo, and I was SO expecting the Wii there - maybe next year :( ), but overall I really enjoyed this year’s PAX (did I say this already?) Sure I’m in tremendous pain and sore all over, but seeing the smiles all over and the fact we raised some money (to be announced!) for Child’s Play made the pain well worth it. For that, thanks for the good times, and see you all next year!

  2. I’ve always thought that there are few problems in life that can’t be solved with string and duct tape.

  3. This was our first year at PAX and I wanted to let you know Marshomech and Eets was my favorite thing at PAX. Granted, I’m wierd and the random things in life make me happiest. Anyway, I just wanted to thank both Eets and the Marshomech for making PAX awesome!

Also, my boyfriend who has played Eets for a while now was pretty intimidated by Marshomech so again, thank you!

  4. Thanks guys! The Marshomech was no small amount of work. We’re game makers, not costume makers, afterall ;)

But we all had a lot of fun and it was totally worth it.
