One of the often-asked questions we got at PAX concerning the Marshomech suit was, “What is that suit made out of?”
Making of the Marshomech - Part I
Concept sketch of the Marshomech suit.
Well, being game designers and not high-tech robot-suit engineers, we resorted to using what we thought was the cheapest and fastest way to make the Marshomech suit: cardboard!
Marshomech - powered by cardboard.
Of course, we also needed some plaster, duct tape, wire mesh, foam, fish wire, shoelace, string, and spraypaint, and lots of divine intervention to hold the suit together.
Some of the materials used. We had to use a LOT more duct tape and plaster than what’s shown here.
Of course, we totally weren’t quite sure what to do, so just to be on the safe side, we decided to create a mock model of the Marshomech suit, just to get an idea how we’d make the thing with cardboard.
Concept sketch, this time with measurements, just to be sure of things.
To do that, we decided to make some mini Marshomech parts out of paper and see how they’d look on our practice model dummy.

However, at this point, it took us over half a day just to plan & make model parts for the test model dummy, and since we only had two weekends before PAX, we decided to scrap the test phase & go straight into making the Marshomech suit (this is why we aren’t engineers!)
(Continued in next week’s Eets Weekly!)
You know… That dummy could almost be some kind of bizzare, overcurvy female from some crappy comic. It doesn’t really look like teh Marshomech. Your final result was fantastic though

Yeah, that dummy looks nothing like the final product. When we put that dummy together, we were all breaking out laughing because of how darn ugly it looked.
Expect maybe Marcus, who knew he had to wear whatever we came up with…
