Have you been busy working on making that bamboozling Eets Puzzle? Class is in session for a rather important tip that’ll realy help, so listen carefully!
Last time, I mentioned two things you should always think about while making an Eets Puzzle:
- When making a puzzle, think of how people can solve your puzzle in the fastest way possible . . .
- The items you lock & unlock make a huge difference in the Puzzle you make!
Those are nice words of advice. However, those two points may be hard to follow. This is especially true for people new to making Puzzles and Eets in general. It’s usually hard for someone (including myself!) to think of ALL the possible ways people can pass the levels you make. The best I can do is to try and find trivial solutions and remove them, although even after that, Eets ninjas were still able to find many unintended (and silly!) solutions to the puzzles I’ve made. In fact, while yours truly was making the original levels found in Eets, I found out that after testing, some of them were passable without placing any items at all!
All embarassment aside, I give you an important bit of advice that can help you in your puzzle-making endeavours:
Get someone to test the Puzzles you make
What this means is, after you make your puzzle, get someone, either your friend, brother, sister, parents or even the pet dog to test your puzzle. Usually, another mind is what it takes to find many unintended, trivial solutions and such. From my experience, when I’m making a level with an idea in mind, I tend to sometimes find myself so intent on making a puzzle a certain way that I block out alternate ways to pass a puzzle. Consequently, that leaves me open to trivial solutions galore…
Bigfoot and I normally check and add suggestions to each others’ puzzles, which help to make the puzzles we make better. If you need someone to give your level a try, one thing you can do is to post a test version of your level on our forums for community members (i.e. Eets ninjas) to take a look and give comments to.
In fact, I’ve tweaked the puzzle I made earlier and posted it on the forums for everyone to comment on, find trivial solutions, or add suggestions to.
