If you were given a choice, what would you consider better looking - ice cream . . . or ice cream with sprinkles, whipped cream, and a cherry on top? If you like your ice cream plain, that’s perfectly fine, however if you’re one of those people that love their desserts all nice and sweet, then you may want to consider adding decor to your Eets Puzzles.
Decor makes for a pretty puzzle.
The properties menu also has nice things to decorate your puzzle.
So, why should you make your puzzle all nice and pretty, you ask? Well, there are at least two benefits of doing so:
- It makes your puzzle prettier.
- You can prevent players from placing items in locations that lead to trivial or unintended solutions.
For an example, let’s take a look at the puzzle I’ve been working on:
My Puzzle, before . . .
Now, after adding some Smore Land decor, sticking in an ambient, and changing the background, here’s my revamped puzzle!
My Puzzle, after!
Now, whether or not the decor I added makes the puzzle look better, I’ll leave that up to you.
The more important reason you may want to add decor to your puzzle though is that you can use it to prevent players from placing items in areas that could ‘break’ your puzzle (i.e. pass your puzzle in trivial and unintended ways.)
Let’s take a look at the bottom-left part of the puzzle I’ve been working on (both the before and after versions):
Most Eets players will drop the Exploding Giant Marshmallow instead of shooting it with a Choco Cannon.
Do you remember what I intended for this part of the puzzle? If not, here’s a reminder:
- Players place the Exploding Giant Marshmallow (Explodomallow) beside the Angry Marshmallow Bud.
- Shoot the Explodomallow with a Choco Pump, which will cause the Angry Bud to fly over to a Prankster Whale on the right.
From the ‘before’ version of my puzzle, there’s a lot of space between the platform holding the Angry Marshmallow Bud and the playform above. Naturally, people will just drop the Explodomallow instead of placing it beside the Angry Bud. The resulting explosion caused by dropping the Explodomallow is sufficient enough to get the Angry Bud over to the Prankster Whale. As a result, the Choco Pump that I wanted players to use in my official solution is now considered ‘useless’.
Dropping the Exploding Giant Marshmallow won’t make it blow up here…
What I did to fix this was to add some decor (vines) to the upper platform, so that players cannot place the Explodomallow high enough so that it’ll explode by simply dropping it. There’s enough space for players to place it on the platform though, which is what I intended. I also decided to lock the Choco Cannon so that players have some idea they need to place the Explodomallow beside the Angry Bud. Also, when aimed properly, an unlocked Choco Pump could shoot the Angry Bud across, thus making the given Explodomallow useless.
Anyways, take a look at My Puzzle (with Decor added!) and tell me what you think!
Class dismissed!
